Introductory Flying Day

This is a half day course designed to give a thorough introduction to learning to fly.

After your arrival at Sandtoft Helicopters, you will meet your instructor and will be shown to one of our briefing rooms where the course will start with a briefing on the effects of the controls and exercises 1-3 of the Private Pilot Licence syllabus.

You will have a look round the helicopter and be shown the main components and flight controls and then it's time for your first flight of the day.

When airborne and at a safe height you will be introduced one by one to the three flight controls, which are the cyclic, collective and pedals, before trying all three at once. After having a go at climbing, descending and banking, there will be a chance to relax and enjoy the beautiful scenery from over 1000 feet in the air.

Back at the airfield you will be debriefed about the flight and then take a well deserved break for coffee/tea and biscuits.

After another briefing you will take to the skies again for your second flight and this time you will have a chance to cover the low level flight exercises such as hovering, spot turns and sideways and backwards flight.

Throughout the course, there will be ample opportunity to ask questions of any of our staff.

The 1/2 day course includes tea/coffee and biscuits, ground briefings, close inspection of the workings of the helicopter, a signed certificate from your flight instructor and 2 hours of flight training.

The flight training can be recorded and counted towards your flying requirements for your Private Pilot Licence.
